Macquarie University Anxiety Research Unit

The Macquarie University Anxiety Research Unit (MUARU) is a specialist clinical research unit located on the Macquarie University Campus. The aim of the Unit is to provide ongoing research into the nature, understanding and treatment of both child and adult anxiety disorders and the debilitating effects these disorders have on the individual, family and community at large. Essential to achieving these research aims is the MUARU Anxiety Clinic, where members of the public can seek specialised assessment and treatment for their or their child’s anxiety problems. Since its establishment in 1993, the Clinic has provided assessment and treatment to large numbers of children and adults, and achieved innovative breakthroughs in our understanding and treatment of anxiety.

The MUARU Anxiety Clinic has a number of other important functions including the provision of research opportunities and clinical training to both national and international students, including Macquarie University post-graduate students. The Clinic is also heavily involved in a variety of outreach programs to primary and high schools and to families living in remote areas of Australia. We also provide professional development and training for a large number of school counsellors and other health professionals each year through conferences, workshops and seminars.
